Bread Cloches

These pots are designed to recreate the desirable steam effects of wood fired and professional ovens when baking bread. By sealing in the steam for the first half of the bake with the lid on, the crust stays flexible longer, allowing for greater over spring. Taking the lid off halfway through promotes colour and creates a beautiful crust. These are meant as an alternative to the popular dutch oven technique, but has the benefits of being able to fit multiples in a typical oven at once, requiring less energy to get to temperature, stacking to take up less space in the cupboards, and presenting nicely on the counter between uses.
